Peer-reviewed research demands data that is sourced under explicit consent, documented to a level that supports independent replication, and accessible through stable interfaces with versioned schemas. Ad hoc data extracts undermine reproducibility and rarely survive peer review.

Institutionally the federation must establish a research-data layer separate from operational systems, with anonymisation, aggregation rules and ethical-approval workflows built in. Without this, every research project negotiates data access bilaterally, slows to a halt over consent and governance issues, and ultimately delivers smaller, less comparable studies than the underlying community could support.

The Research Data API exposes anonymised and aggregated participation, performance and demographic datasets through a versioned, documented interface with explicit consent provenance recorded per data subject. Researchers register their study, ethical approvals and data-use agreement once, then access reproducible extracts that meet peer-review standards for source documentation.

Research funding opportunities for under-studied sports are scattered across national research councils, sport-agency grants, federation programs and international foundations. Researchers spend disproportionate time discovering opportunities that match their methodology and pétanque interest.

Institutionally the federation can act as a clearinghouse — surfacing relevant calls, signposting partnership opportunities and connecting research interests to the federations and clubs willing to participate. Without that intermediation, pétanque remains a residual interest pursued by a few committed researchers rather than an organised research community.

The Research Partnership Directory aggregates pétanque-relevant funding calls, ongoing studies and federation-side research interests in a searchable directory. Researchers can express interest, contact federation research liaisons and find collaborators across institutions working on adjacent questions, lowering the discovery cost that otherwise discourages new pétanque studies.

Recruitment is the chronic bottleneck of sport research: identifying eligible participants, securing informed consent, distributing instruments and tracking response across geographies. Bespoke recruitment for each study is slow and produces non-representative samples.

Institutionally the federation can offer an opt-in research-participation register and a survey infrastructure that handles consent, distribution and reminder cadence within the platform players already use. This shifts recruitment from the researcher's critical-path workload to a managed federation service, dramatically improving sample size, representativeness and time-to-fieldwork.

Survey Tools deliver researcher-built instruments to opt-in pétanque-community participants segmented by demographics, role and federation. Consent is captured once per study with full provenance, and responses are returned anonymised through the Research Data API.

A Publication Platform provides a venue for resulting outputs to circulate within the community whose contributions made them possible.
