Results Follower

Tracks scores and results without watching live.

I korthet

Results followers track scores and outcomes without watching live, fitting petanque around work, family and other commitments. The platform delivers fast searchable results, precision-tuned push notifications and personalised digests so they stay informed without being overwhelmed.

Motivation

Staying informed, following favorites, time constraints.

Kontext

Results followers are among the most numerous fan segments. They check the app during commutes, lunch breaks and evenings, often spending less than two minutes per visit but returning many times per day during major events.

Phones are the dominant device, with quick glances at smartwatches for notifications. They follow specific players, clubs or competitions, not the entire sport.

A flood of irrelevant pushes drives uninstalls, but missing a critical match — a friend's medal, a club's promotion — feels like a betrayal of fandom. The challenge is precision: deliver exactly what they care about, nothing more, on time.

Behoven på djupet

1

A fast, searchable results feed with filters per competition, club and player so live and final scores are always one tap away

Varför det är viktigt

When a follower has thirty seconds between meetings, they open the app expecting to find a specific result immediately. Scrolling through unrelated competitions loses them.

Search must be forgiving — partial names, club abbreviations, last week's tournament — and filters must persist across sessions so the same view loads on every visit. Live and final scores need to coexist visually so a follower instantly knows whether a match is settled or still in motion.

Speed is non-negotiable: cold-start latency above two seconds means people stop opening the app.

The results feed renders cached data first then refreshes via SSE for live matches, so the app opens to relevant content instantly. Filters per competition, club and player persist per user.

Search supports fuzzy matching across player names, club names and competition titles in all 43 supported languages.

2

Configurable push notifications that deliver only the matches, players and milestones the viewer has explicitly chosen to follow

Varför det är viktigt

Push notifications are the most powerful and most fragile tool in the toolkit. One unwanted ping costs trust; ten cost the install.

Followers want granular control: notify me when this player starts a knockout match, when this club wins a final, when this competition publishes the day's draw — but not when round-robin pool matches end at 22:00 on a Tuesday. Without granular controls, users either disable notifications entirely (losing the channel) or unsubscribe (losing the user).

The bar is exactly-what-I-asked-for, never anything else.

Notification preferences are configurable per entity (player, club, competition) and per event type (match start, score milestone, knockout result, final). Quiet hours respect device settings and explicit overrides.

Delivery is via APNs and FCM with sub-3-second targets for critical events.

3

Personalised digests that summarise the day's relevant action without flooding the viewer with information from unrelated competitions

Varför det är viktigt

On a busy tournament day, a follower might have twenty matches involving people or clubs they care about. Twenty pushes is unbearable; one digest is perfect.

The digest answers the question they actually want answered — "what mattered today for me?" — in a single scroll. It needs to highlight the meaningful (a quarter-final win, a relegation-defining loss) above the routine (a pool-play victory in the second round).

For followers in different time zones from the events, the digest is sometimes the only way they catch up before the next day starts.

End-of-day digests are generated per user from their followed entities, ranked by significance (knockout > pool, final > opening). Digests deliver via push and email at user-configured times.

A digest preview is also available in-app on the home screen.

I praktiken

Tuesday morning, a follower checks her phone on the train and sees a digest from yesterday: her brother's club won the regional final, two players she follows advanced in the international qualifier, and a competition she loosely tracks crowned its champion. She taps the regional final, scrolls through the bracket and shares a screenshot to the family chat. Later, between meetings, a notification fires — her brother's next match starts in thirty minutes.

She opens the live score view and leaves it pinned to the top of her screen. The match swings on a final-end shoot-out. She gets one final push when it ends, sees the result, and replies to her brother before her next call.

Total time invested across the day: under five minutes, but she feels fully present in the season.
