National Team Selection

F04.09 6 features Planned

At a glance

National team selection workflow covering the selection committee, criteria, candidate pool tracking, team composition builder, announcement workflow, and historical records. Federations run squad selection for continental and world championships through a defensible, auditable process.

How it works

Each federation registers a selection committee with named members (typically the national coach, federation officials, and external selectors), assigning roles and voting weight. The committee defines selection criteria upfront — combination of ranking position, recent results, head-to-head form, fitness/availability declarations, and discretionary slots. The candidate pool tracker then ingests all eligible players: it pulls live data on national ranking, ELO trend, last-N results, declared availability for the championship dates, and any disciplinary or anti-doping flags from F12.

Selectors filter the pool, mark candidates for shortlisting, and add notes that stay private to the committee. The team composition builder is interactive: drag players into team slots respecting championship format (e.g., FIPJP triplette = 3 players + reserves), validate that the squad satisfies all criteria, see the squad's combined ELO and recent form, and check for conflicts (overlapping injury, conflicting club commitments). Once the committee agrees, the selection announcement workflow takes over: a draft announcement is composed, players receive a private offer requiring acceptance/decline within a deadline, accepted selections trigger public announcement (CMS post, push notifications, email), and declined slots cascade to the next-ranked candidate.

Every decision is logged: who voted, who was considered, who was selected, who declined, and the criteria evaluated. National team history and records persist every selection forever, so the federation can show a player's career as a national team member and compute all-time rosters for milestone celebrations.

Key capabilities

  • Selection committee management with roles and voting weight
  • Configurable selection criteria (ranking, results, head-to-head, fitness, discretionary)
  • Candidate pool tracking with live ranking, ELO, form, availability, and integrity flags
  • Interactive team composition builder with format validation and squad analytics
  • Private offer → accept/decline → public announcement workflow
  • Cascade to next candidate on decline with audit of every decision
  • National team history and records spanning every championship cycle

In practice

Six weeks before the European Triplette Championship, the Swedish national coach opens the selection workspace. The candidate pool ranks 18 players by SM ranking and global ELO, flags two as unavailable for the dates, and shows a third under anti-doping investigation. The committee shortlists six, drags three into the triplette slots plus one reserve, and the builder confirms the squad meets every criterion.

Private offers go out; one player declines due to work, the next-ranked candidate accepts within 24 hours. The public announcement publishes to the federation site with squad bios; the full audit log of votes and considered candidates is sealed for the federation's records.
