Cultural & Heritage
At a glance
Cultural & Heritage celebrates petanque as a living tradition with a curated history archive, hall-of-fame registry, museum and exhibition listings, and a cultural events calendar covering festivals from La Marseillaise à Pétanque to small village fêtes. It connects heritage tourism with playing destinations so every trip can include both a tournament and a story.
How it works
An editorial CMS structures heritage content into pages, timelines, and biographies covering the sport's origin in La Ciotat, the codification of rules, the development of national federations, and watershed tournaments. Hall-of-fame entries follow a structured template (career, titles, era, nation, citation, photo gallery, video tributes) and are nominated by federations or FIPJP committees, then reviewed and published with versioning. The historic competition archive holds final-position lists, brackets, and photographs for past World, Continental, and major national championships, cross-linked to player biographies and venue heritage pages so a single click moves between an athlete, the year they won, and the boulodrome that hosted the event.
Museum and exhibition listings are entered by curators with opening hours, ticket links, accessibility info, and language audio guide availability; the same listings power maps in destination guides. The cultural events calendar aggregates festivals and exhibitions from federations, clubs, and tourism boards with category filters (festival, exhibition, conference, film) and translated descriptions, and lets users add events to their personal calendar or share to social. Multilingual support spans 43 languages with editor workflows for primary translations and community contributions for less-resourced languages, plus a glossary of terms (carreau, fanny, mène) that appear as inline tooltips throughout the site.

In practice
A documentary maker researching the sport's origins lands on the history hub, follows the timeline from La Ciotat 1907 to the founding of FIPJP, and clicks through to biographies of legendary champions complete with archival photographs and video clips. They use the museum directory to plan a visit to a regional collection, add the upcoming Boules Festival in Marseille to their calendar, and contact the federation press office through the listing. A casual visitor preparing a Provence holiday opens the destination guide, finds heritage stops next to recommended boulodromes, and reads short biographies of local champions in their own language thanks to the multilingual content layer.
